Suicide Assessment and Prevention:
Skills for the CT Licensed Healthcare Provider
Narrated and Developed by
Clarisse Fairbanks, DNP, APRN, PMHCNS –BC, RN
Clarisse is board certified Psychiatric Mental Health CNS, APRN.
and has been a PMH APRN in CT since 1993. She has been a psychiatric nurse
since 1990.
Clarisse did do a couple of years of med-surg nursing to make sure she
had strong, well-rounded clinical skills! She has worked in a variety of settings
including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospital programs in the state
hospitals and the VA system.
She then became very interested in long term care
and did many years of my career providing psychiatric consultation to
nursing homes and assisted livings throughout CT.
Due to her interest in geriatrics and long term care, she is also a CT licensed
nursing home administrator.
For the past several years, she has worked as a solo clinician in
my PMH private practice, called Psychiatric Wellness Care, providing
psychotherapy and medication management for adults with psychiatric
disorders. She specializes in mood disorders (which of course includes SI, sleep
disorders, and ADD).
She’s also a full-time assistant professor and lead faculty
member for the undergraduate nursing program at Salve Regina University
in Newport, RI. She teaches several leadership and business courses in the
graduate nursing program at Salve, as well.
She serves on the board of directors at
CT’s HAVEN – the Health Assistance and Intervention program for
health care providers wanting and seeking assistance for substance use — and
she is an active member of the CT Nurses Association Government Relations committee.
